What Young Women Who Study The Bible Have, That Those Who Don’t Miss (And How To Study Yours)

Bible study

Does studying the bible really pay?

That’s a question that might lie at the corner of your heart as you read and hear all the “start studying your bible” – especially, at the beginning of the new year.

Lots of bible study and reading plans. And a bunch of devotionals to help you have a daily quiet time.

So you wonder… anything to gain if I read my bible … or anything to miss if I don’t?

I’ve been on both sides of the coin. I remember times when studying the Bible didn’t mean much to me. Some days I read it. And other days, I completely forget.

But as I grew in my walk with God, and got to understand what it means to be a child of God, something happened.

I saw the need to read the Bible … or rather, study it. Search the scriptures.

And this isn’t just about me. I’ve seen and read from others who testify to the difference in their lives when they studied the bible more. You gain so much when you get into God’s word.

What You Gain When You Study The Bible

  1. God’s Power: In his book, “The Final Quest”, Rick Joyner created a picture of Christian who were wounded, guarded and vomited on by the demonic army. But this is what was more alarming about these Christians:

Surprisingly, these prisoners still had their swords and shields, but they did not use them. It was shocking to see that so many could be kept captive by so few of these little demons of Fear. These could have easily been destroyed or driven off if the prisoners had just used their weapons.

We have The Sword. The word of God. And we can use that Sword to strike the enemies that dare to come near us – because, “surely, they must gather.”

But lots of Christians have the swords on our shelves, phones and even head, rather than in our hearts and mouth. So they don’t know how or when to exercise it.

Are you one of those Christians?

Jesus said, “Behold, I give unto you power…” You possess that power to stand and be all God created you to be when you soak yourself in God’s word.

2. God’s Promises: Bible.com tells us that there are 7487 promises in the Bible.

How many of these promises do you know? How many do you ask God for? How many do you have? Of course, you can’t have if you don’t ask (in faith), and you can’t ask if you don’t know there’s a promise, a package waiting for you to claim it. “For all the promises in Christ are yea and amen!”

3. God’s Peace: Have you met someone who smiles and is at rest in the midst of so much chaos? Like Jesus, sleeping in the boat when the storm raged. And Jesus said, “My peace I give unto you.” You can possess such peace in your heart and soul when you study more of God’s word.

4. God’s Presence: Your relationship with god deepens as you study more of His word. You feel His presence. He speaks to you. He guides you – take this direction… do this… meet this person. What great joy in communing with God!

5. God’s Provision: “And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory.”

What do you need?

As you read the bible, you’ll see God’s provision at work in the lives of various people. When He provided food, protection, open doors, life partner… water from the rock … manna from above. These testimonies will build your faith. And not just that, you’ll learn what those people did to get those provisions from God.

6. God’s Perception: “That the eyes of their understanding may be open…” You’ve seen a blind person attempt to walk on his/her own, right?

What happens? He can hit a wall. Or fall into a ditch. Or keeping moving his hands around when the cup he wants to grab stares at his face.

But someone with a good sight sees his/her way perfectly. That’s what the bible can do for you – a light to your feet and a lamp to your path.

7. God’s Progeny: God can use you to birth biological and spiritual children who will be a blessing to your generation.

Like the Proverbs 31 woman, your children shall rise up and call you blessed. But you must have that Godly seed before sowing it into people’s lives.

How To Be A Young Woman Of The Bible

Read it daily: Just like you eat your physical food daily, eat your spiritual food too. And just like you discuss with someone you really love… every single day, discuss with God daily. The more you spend time with God, the more intimate you are with Him.

Have an appointment with God, and keep it: When we talk about reading the bible, most times, we wait for a perfect time to do it. But the truth is, life will keep you so busy and distracted, giving you no “free time” to study God’s word. Or some days, you just don’t “feel like” reading the bible… Or everything seems bleak and dry.

How will you deal with this?

I love this advice from Corrie Ten Boom:

Don’t pray (read the bible) when you feel like it. Have an appointment with the Lord and keep it. Corrie talked about prayers, but we can apply it to bible reading too.

Have a time… an appointment… a schedule. And keep it. That’s the way to strangle the flesh that may want to stop you from digging into God’s word. As you come daily, your heart and love for the word grows deeper.

Some bible reading plans will help: There are lots of bible reading plans that will help you read through the bible. With the year still fresh, you can choose one that resonates with you and use it. Find some Bible reading plans here.

Pick some books or topics in the bible and have an in-depth study: More than simply reading through the Bible, you can, or should, pick some books or topics of interest and do an in-depth study on it. You can decide to study the book of Ruth, Philippians; or a Bible Character like Anna, Esther, David; or a topic like forgiveness, prayers.

These Bible Study Tips will help.
