15 Top, Practical Tips for a Healthy Life

Whenever we hear/see “health tips”, sometimes we respond with the “fight or flight mechanism”, because what appears in our mind is this long list of do’s and don’ts that might tell us – if it’s sweet, its poisonous; no cooked food, eat only pulses and vegetables; – or give you some rigorous exercise regimen that make you feel guilty always because you don’t keep up with them.

And not just that, failure to keep that is attached to one or more – killer disease.

But what if I give you some health tips that are both practical and all-inclusive – not just tied to what goes into your mouth, but involves every area of your being.

You see, in my years of study of Biochemistry, in fact with a specialization in Nutrition, I’ve come to realize that healthy living is much more than diet rules, but an interplay of various factors.

Even during research studies using lab animals, seemingly unimportant factors such as the type of cage the animals were housed in, affect result of some health parameters obtained from the animals.

Ok! Various definitions of ‘health’ will give you an idea of what I’m talking about –

World Health Organization (WHO): Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.

Merriam-webster dictionary: The condition of being sound in body, mind, or spirit…

So if we pull these definitions together, we’ll clearly see that – health is  a state of overall wellbeing.

Heard that before, right?

Now I’ll give you tips that will help you stay healthy…

Top Tips for All-Round Health

Physical

1. Maintain a hygienic, clean lifestyle and environment. Poor hygiene exposes you to sickness, while good hygiene promotes sound health.

2.Get active! Exercise! Stay fit! You don’t have to register with a gym to do that. Some home workouts and neighborhood jogging could do.

3.Eat balanced, nutritious meals. I can’t possibly talk about health without mentioning this. The foods we eat are actually building blocks for our body. As Anthelme Brillat put it, “tell me what you eat and I will tell you what you are”. More naturals, less processed is the way to go. Let your meals be as colourful as possible.

Life is not merely to be alive, but to be well. [Marcus Valerius]

Social

4. Learn to get out and connect with people. Don’t be lost in “your own” world.

5. Be of help to someone. Make it a life principle not to let someone in need cross your path without you doing something. Even if you have nothing tangible to offer, a word of advice or short prayer will do a whole lot of good. If you put a smile on someone’s face, you get a whole lot of smile in return. And you know that your ‘smile’ is a health and beauty tonic. See more in this ebook

6. Always forgive and receive forgiveness. Put grudges and bitterness away from your heart. Not only did God instruct us to forgive, but also unforgiveness makes you sick! Your heart is racing – high blood pressure on the way… Your stomach is rumbling – stomach ulcer approaching…

Health and cheerfulness naturally beget each other. [Joseph Addison]

Mental

7. Recognize your strengths and weaknesses. Develop and actively utilize your strengths, improve on your weaknesses.

8. Stay positive and enthusiastic.

9. Learn to be happy even when it seems there is nothing to be happy about.

To ensure good health: eat lightly, breathe deeply, live moderately, cultivate cheerfulness, and maintain an interest in life. [William Londen]

Emotional

10. Read, study, learn, and acquire knowledge. Knowledge empowers you and boosts your confidence level.

11. Say no to negative thoughts and emotions like – worry, anxiety, envy, jealousy, bitterness. They eat you up.

12. Learn to deal with stress. Instead of becoming irritable and whining around, put on a cool music, lay your head down and take a short good rest.

Being in control of your life and having realistic expectations about your day-to-day challenges are the keys to stress management, which is perhaps the most important ingredient to living a happy, healthy and rewarding life. [Marilu Henner]

Spiritual

13. Get acquainted with God, the giver of sound health. (Mtt 6:22-28; 15:22-26)

14.Read the word of God and obey it explicitly. As you obey, you receive the promises written in it.

15. Fellowship with like-minded believers.

Begin to rejoice in the Lord, and your bones will flourish like an herb, and your cheeks will glow with the bloom of health and freshness. Worry, fear, distrust, care are all poisonous! Joy is balm and healing, and if you will but rejoice, God will give you power. [A.B. Simpson]
