Christian Girl, Where Is The “Hole In Your Ear”?

Christian Girl, Where Is The _Hole In Your Ear__

Can you say you’re a Christian, and yet, no hole is bored in your ear?

What then is your identification mark?

Your eyes just widened, and the flesh on your forehead shrank… right. “What is she actually saying?”

Ok, find out!

There was this girl – with a blonde skin, black hair and blue eyes. Her hair was rumpled, her skin tarred by the fiery sun, and her cloth sprinkled with dirt and holes… but that didn’t shade her beauty.

Her step mother, determined to take her out of sight, dragged her frail body to go sell her off. “Mr Raphael loves you and wants to marry you. He’ll take care of you”, she rattled, giving her a sardonic smile.

She was just 11 years. All she did was love and serve her step mum and siblings, in total abandon, since her dad died. Tears flooded her eyes, and you could see her heart beat as they headed for the slave trade square, where the man awaited them.

Just as she was about to be handed off to Mr. Raphael, in exchange for a sum of money, a man in grey suit, with a black briefcase walked up. He’s been watching this red-faced young girl with pity.

He opened his briefcase, and handed her step mum some money, ten times what Mr. Raphael offered. Beaming with smiles, she gave her to the man, Mr. Ben, and danced away.

Mr Ben took Amanda home, not as a slave, but as a daughter. Feeding, education, love… everything she needed was placed in her hands without much ado.

The rule in the land was, after six years, a slave can be released to go home if she wanted.

But for Amanda, going wasn’t an option for her – she was home. “I want to serve you for ever” she said, as loving tears welled up her eyes.

To stamp that, a hole had to be bored in her ear, so that everyone who sees her quickly identifies she belongs to a Master, forever.

This is a picture of the instruction given to Israelites in Exodus 21: 2,5,6 – “2 If thou buy an Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve: and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing.5And if the servant shall plainly say, I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free: Then his master shall bring him unto the judges; he shall also bring him to the door, or unto the door post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an aul; and he shall serve him for ever.”

Now, coming to you and I, dear Christian girl.

Jesus gave His own self to redeem us from the cruel slavery of the devil, both here on earth and in eternity. As the Bible says – 15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again” (2 Corinthians 5:15)

If you say you’re a Christian, in principle, it means you’ve accepted Jesus as your Lord and Master. And you love Him, right? I mean, who wouldn’t love a Man who, “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue” (2 Peter 1:3).

Then, as an evidence of that love and His Lordship over you, a hole should be bored in your ear. But Jesus isn’t going to grab your ear and bore it with an aul, physically. Yet, He’s made it clear to us that we should be identified as His.

For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”  (1 Corinthians 6: 20).

People should hear your speech, seasoned with salt, and say – yes, this is a Christian. Your dressing, your adornment… must spell – that is a Christian girl. The way you carry yourself, your attitude to people and life in general, must betray you as – a Child of God.

If you open your mouth and lash out reckless words, what makes you different from that girl who doesn’t read the Bible. Those sensual dressings, that exposes and emphasizes your feminine features brutally… If that defines your dress code, and you excuse it away with, “it’s my body, and I love to dress this way”. Do not even the publicans (heathen) so? What makes you any different?

When you masquerade yourself with all the paintings and artificial fixtures available, in a bid to keep up with the beauty trend… Who do you actually seek the please? The world or Christ? “For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written.” (Romans 2:24)

When the world sees no difference between you and them – you talk, act, dress, relate… like they do, why will they come to embrace your Jesus?

“When the Church and the world can jog comfortably together, you may be sure there is something wrong. The world has not altered. Its spirit is exactly the same as it ever was, and if Christians were equally faithful and devoted to the Lord, and separated from the world, living so that their lives were a reproof to all ungodliness, the world would hate them as much as it ever did.” (Catherine Booth)

Dear girl, God has called you to be separate from the world, because, you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood. You don’t have to be awkward or look archaic. But, like the Bible says, you should – Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” (1 John 2:15) . Come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. (2 Corinthians 6:17)

And yes, striking that aul through the ear isn’t going to happen without some pain. I’m sure those maidservants (like Amanda) felt the piercing pain, and blood trickling out as well. But it was temporal, and that memory will be erased as they get ravished in the love and care of their master.

Jesus distinctly made that known to us – If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me (Luke 9:23).Yes, that is the price of discipleship… What it means to follow Jesus… To be a Christian.

But you know it’s all temporal; the shunning or discomfort that could arise from it. The moment you step your feet on the shores of heaven, just feeling the cool breeze that blows from the crystal sea… those earthly memories will mean nothing. Absolutely.

So girl, surrender yourself to Jesus, read and obey His word… and it will bore a hole in your ear. Carry that mark around boldly and proudly.

And like Paul, don’t hesitate to declare, “For I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus” (Galatians 6: 17).

Remain Radiant!
